Kurzname: 06.008.094
Kursnummer: 06.008.094

Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches

This lecture series will offer an international and interdisciplinary introduction to India. As the country with the second largest English-speaking population in the world, as an increasingly important economic power, as a country with a rich cultural heritage both past and present, an understanding of India and Indian cultures is for students of English -- and not just Anglophone studies -- of great relevance.

Experts from Germany and abroad will give lectures on a weekly basis addressing translation studies, literary and cultural studies, intercultural communication, linguistic, and religious topics. Bollywood, Rudyard Kipling, Sikh culture, postcolonial studies, translation projects, sociolinguistics...

The lecture series will be held predominantly in English (with one or two German-language contributions). Students of all levels, and colleagues, are more than welcome to attend the series, which has gained funding through the Zentrum für Interkulturelle Studien (ZIS).

M.A. students requiring Hauptseminar credits should note the parallel class on Anglo-Indian Texts and Contexts in Sommersemester 2012, offered by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Kylie Crane.
