Whether studying for a bachelor’s degree in “Sprache, Kultur, Translation” (B.A. SKT), a master’s degree in “Translation” (M.A. T), or a master’s degree in “Konferenzdolmetschen” (M.A. KD), the English programs at Mainz University’s Germersheim campus offer a unique combination of theory and practice. Experts in American, Canadian, and British Studies, English Linguistics as well as Translation and Interpreting Studies, our native or near-native speaking staff will introduce you to the subject from an interdisciplinary perspective and enable you to explore the anglophone world with a special focus on translation and interpreting. Through a sequence of obligatory and elective courses (in the form of lectures, seminars, and practical training classes), our B.A. and M.A. programs combine the benefits of a broad education with the possibilities of academic and professional specialization, for instance in the fields of literary translation, media translation, or specialized translation (business and economics; information technology/technology, law, or medicine), inter- and transcultural studies, or translation didactics. We strive to enhance the employment prospects of our students and to equip them for life beyond university. Our graduates have not only made careers for themselves as translators and interpreters (both as freelancers and employees of national and international organizations such as the Bundessprachenamt, foreign embassies, the European Community, or the United Nations). They also go on to be successful journalists, editors for international publishers, university teachers, and intercultural experts in multinational companies.
